Donavan is a western surrealism painter. Born in 1967 in Cocoa, Florida she grew up in the midst of NASA’s exciting heyday and the beauty of central Florida’s flora and fauna.
As a child she spent summers at her grandparents’ ranch in Colorado. These visits inspired a deep love for the mountains. While attending the University of South Florida she changed her career path from veterinary medicine to graphic design and illustrations. She later transferred to the Colorado Institute of Art in Denver. There she met her husband Bill and for thirty years they maintained a roster of both local and national clients; calling Jackson Hole, WY and N.W. Montana home. In 1999, they moved their design studio, two small boys and a couple dogs to their final destination in Salida, Colorado.
Today, Laura dedicates herself to painting. Her work pays homage to the landscapes, animals, mythology and iconography of the West. She strives to engage the viewer in an enchantment of light, shadow and lore. Her work is held in collections throughout the United States, Canada and the UK.
